The Lagos State Government under the able and dynamic leadership
of His Excellency Executive Governor Akinwunmi Ambode
has endorsed the annual Eko International Film Festival. This collaboration is
line with his vision of making Lagos State the hub of Entertainment not only in
the West African sub-region but the entire Africa at large. Eko International
Film Festival is to promote the country’s economy & tourism potential of
Lagos by creating opportunities for international co-productions and
distribution, thus bringing the world film market to Lagos.
According to Hope Obioma Opara – President / Founder of
EKOIFF, this endorsement is a welcome development as this will go a long way to
boast the image of the festival , The
Film Festival, he continues, is open to
filmmakers from around the world , only in
five categories which includes: Feature Film, Short Film, Fiction,
Documentaries, Short Documentaries ,’
the last edition was great , but we are working round the clock to make ,the
2016 edition, the very best’, he submitted. The Film Festival will rerun from
October 24th to 29th. 2016.
The annual Eko
International Film Festival (EKOIFF) is said to be Nigeria’s leading international film festival
in the coastal megacity of Lagos in south western Nigeria.
It was founded and established by Supple Communications
Limited in 2009 with the aim of promoting the appreciation of Arts and Culture
through the motion picture arts and sciences and increase tourism in the global
village.
The inaugural edition was held in the megacity of Lagos in
summer, July 7-12, 2010, at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas of The Palms in Lekki,
Lagos, with filmmakers from Nigeria, Kenya, UK, Germany, France, Spain and
America. The second edition was held in July 2011 at the Silverbird Cinemas of
the Silverbird Galleria on Victoria Island, Lagos.
