AMERICAN SINGER-SONGWRITER, FATS DOMINO IS DEAD.

Popular America born song writer Fats Domino is  dead, the genial, good-natured symbol of the dawn of rock and roll and the voice and piano behind enduring hits like "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain’t That a Shame," died Tuesday at the age of 89. Mark Bone, chief investigator with the Jefferson Parish coroner's office in Louisiana, confirmed his death to the Associated Press.

Born in 1928, Antoine Domino was playing piano and performing in New Orleans honky tonks and bars by the time he was a teenager. At 14, he dropped out of high school, taking jobs like hauling ice and working at a bedspring factory as a way to supplement his music. Domino's career was effectively kicked off at New Orleans Hideaway Club. While playing piano in local bandleader Billy Diamond’s band, Diamond nicknamed Antoine "Fats" — partly in homage to keyboard-playing predecessors like Fats Waller and partly because, as Diamond told one crowd, "I call him ‘Fats,’ ‘cause if he keeps eating, he’s going to be just as big!" Domino was initially hesitant about the nickname, but it stuck.

Later, at the same club, Domino met Bartholomew and Imperial Records head Lew Chudd, who signed Domino to his label. In 1949, Domino cut his first Imperial single, "The Fat Man," a rewrite of the drug-addiction song "Junker’s Blues" that many consider one of the earliest rock records. Although it didn’t make the top 40, "The Fat Man" was a huge R&B hit and established Domino’s sound and image for decades to come.

Married at 20, he was a notorious homebody who eventually had eight children (all of whose names began with the letter "A"). Asked by Rolling Stone in 2007 about riots that took place during early rock and roll shows that featured him and other acts, Domino simply replied, "I don't know. It wasn't anything in the music, so it must have been something in the audience."

A contemporary of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, Domino was among the first acts inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was reportedly only second to Presley in record sales thanks to a titanic string of 11 top 10 hits between 1955 and 1960.

Antoine "Fats" Domino, Jr. was an American pianist and singer-songwriter of Louisiana Creole descent. He had 35 records in the U.S. Billboard Top 40, and five of his pre-1955 records sold more than a million copies, being certified gold.

N2.6bn FRAUD ALLEGATION AGAINST SEN.ORJI: CCN IS A FACELESS GROUP, SAYS HIS MEDIA AID.

PRESS RELEASE

We read and were aware of a drab “officialese” with cornucopia of ludicrous scurrilities aimed at provoking controversy against the distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Theodore Orji by imaginary civil society organisation – The Concerned Citizens of Nigeria (CCN).

Senator Orji.
This canard validated with a fake name, Taiwo Akinyele was published in Authority newspaper of Sunday 22nd September, 2017, Punch newspaper of Monday 23rd September, 2017 and some various online news portals with headlines:  N2.6bn fraud: group urges FG to resume Sen. Orji’s prosecution; group seeks Orji’s arrest, prosecution over alleged N2.6bn misappropriation.

Our reason for being taciturn since the publications hit the newsstand and social media was to conduct and conclude a comprehensive search with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to ascertain the true status of this so called association in order to enforce our civil right.

The objective was to deflect their bloated ego and made them sulk by demanding for a retraction and apology to be published in three (3) national dailies within a specific time or face the consequences of their rascality.

We thought this approach prudent as we believe that it will put an end to multiplicity of spurious petitions of misappropriation against Sen. Orji to the Economic, Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by disgruntled elements hiding under pseudo associations to bring his gargantuan political image and integrity to their wretched level.

Unfortunately our plan was halted after weeks of painstaking search as investigation confirmed that the association - The Concerned Citizens of Nigeria and its purported President, Mr. Taiwo Akinyele were pseudonyms with no contact address or phone numbers, except a Facebook page and a dormant website impulsively created to give respiration to the unregistered fake group.

We find It pathetic how those who saw themselves as hegemons while in power few years ago and notorious svengalis (with coercive use of state security apparatus) will resort to this display of contemptible cowardice – like scared dogs with tails in between legs – in their self-defeating fight against Sen. Orji who rather than reviled is being serenaded by Nigerians.

While we challenge these clowns masquerading as civil organisation group to make themselves known to see if we will hesitate a moment to take legal action against them, we however urge the general public to disregard the mendacity published.

Signed

Don Norman Obinna

Media Adviser to Senator T.A Orji
